HELEN JENKINS CHAPEL

Helen Jenkins Chapel was first constructed  as the Norwegian Lutheran Church by Scandinavian settlers who had relocated to Thorsby. The Norwegian Congregation was formed in Thorsby in 1897 but had lacked a permanent structure until the church's completion in 1903. At the time Thorsby also had a Concordia Swedish Lutheran Church located on Jones Street which no longer stands.

For a time after the church congregation dissolved in 1960, the building served as a Masonic Lodge. It was given the title Helen Jenkins Chapel many years later in memory of Helen Jenkins who was the long standing principal of Thorsby Institute which stood across the street on the site of the present school.

Helen Jenkins Chapel remains in mostly its original design other than the early removal of a balcony and an addition for classrooms.
